How about Dallas making sense because it's where a few of the birds used to be built?
Another thing that I remember about their site selection was that it had to be in an area that had a fairly open area surrounding the immediate airport for formation work and general VFR flight without being close to a big Class B airport like DFW (I know, Denver has a big ol' one of them too!) and it also had to have a LARGE amount of open ramp or land to have them on... as far as I know, with the exception of Mineral Wells, aren't most of the Dallas / Ft. Worth airports pretty full o' planes on all ramps and surfaces? (eg: Addison, Meacham, etc). Combine with that, the airport had to be fairly close to existing hotels and accomodations to house the 50,000 plus people and pilots... so Mineral Wells is out

Actually the airspace North of DFW is wide open. That is where I fly. Denton (DTO) is just North of DFW and has a 7000 ft. runway with plenty of ramp space... not too busy... control tower... plenty of hotels around. The 50th anniv. of the Globe Swift was held there with about 300 airplanes in attendance!
Another GREAT place would be Grayson Country airport (Sherman, TX - North of Dallas) which is the old Perin AFB. HUGE runways with HUGE ramp space... control tower... and a great airport manager!!! Unlimited Air Races were held there back in 1990 or 1991.
I know I may be wasting my time reviewing all this here but again... where ever it is.... I am going.
