This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Heavy commitments at work have kept me from searching the web decently.
Has anyone heard whether an offer has been made to acquire C-47A 42-92847 from Basler?
http://www.wittmanairport.com/2013/09/w ... ding-c-47/And if not, whom can we interest in getting her saved? Perhaps Basler would accept the trade of a less-historically-signficant airframe for her?

That article seems to have generated some interest in the comments

This is not the "Belle of Birmingham", it was confirmed that this is a C-47 which was used on D-Day but was called "That's All Brother".

The airplane is not, nor was it ever for sale.

Thanks, Tom...have changed the thread title accordingly.

No problem. To my knowledge Basler never showed interest in selling, but the information that was in the article led me to believe that a restoration to original condition is possible.

There was some mention that the aircraft was for sale by some folks at Basler, and I know of one group that sent someone out to look at it and make an offer after several hours of phone conversations with various folks at Basler. It was after the representative arrived in WI and talked with folks from Basler that they decided the aircraft was not for sale. It seems that there was some differing opinions at Basler on if the aircraft was for sale. The airframe trade/replacement discussion was had, it did not move any further.

It appears Jerry himself posted about MAM acquiring it in the comments.

When I was in Midland a couple of weeks ago, she was sitting by herself on the ramp.

Hopefully they get the funds they need - looking a little short at the moment $39K of $75K when I checked.

I'm surprised the NMUSAF or the Smithsonian didn't grab this one long ago - was its history not generally known?
