great stuff, never have seen these before. pic #3 has a curious border around the early roundel of the U.S. insignia. never saw a border like that from the early stage of the war. CAN ANY ONE EXPLAIN??

Captured P-40's were repainted by the Japanese for filming of the wartime movie "Kato Hayabusa Sento-tai".

Grab some popcorn and watch:

(The P-40 in these markings appears at about 48:10)

Not bad movie considering 1944 and made in Japan. I smell Paul Mantz there must have some grads of UCLA or USC on the flim. Pretty good aerial shots and special effects, think the prisoner was German. Bet is was a big hit there but wonder about those who saw it and knew Japan was getting its butt kicked by then.

About a minute after the P-40 is shown there is a Brewster Buffalo as well!

The one pic of the bellied in E model was/is on ebay right now. Probably the PI but could have been Java as some p-40s were captured there as well. I wonder if they rebalanced the rudder after the repaint ?
