NASA WB-57 Houston Flyover Pictures

Thu Nov 19, 2015 2:56 pm

Got to a park near the south end of EFD hoping to get pictures of the planes as they took off. Watched 2 planes take off to the north, way to far away to get pictures, and no place near the northern departures to get any good shots.
Headed over to the corner of NASA Rd1 and Space Center Blvd. thinking I'd have at least a chance of getting some shots, maybe even without the sun being a factor. The following are what I got:

These guys went by while I was waiting.

Coming in from east to west.

After passing by, they headed south, then a 180 north, photo plane trailing........

Then headed back my way.

And the flight route.

They took off from EFD shortly after 9:30, I got my shots at JSC around 11, they landed shortly thereafter.

Excellent photos, thanks!

I developed an interest in these about 15 years ago when I sat in on a presentation at Oshkosh by a fellow who had flown them on nuclear test sampling runs and over various areas in South and Central America. His presentation was fascinating.

Wow, never thought I'd see a formation of B-57's!

Yeah, if you'd told me as a kid, I'd be in my 40s and hearing of this formation, I'd have told you that you were nuts.
Now, all that said, how do their crews get typrated? There can't be an B-57 check pilots anymore, are there? I have heard that there are one or two RAF Canberras flying in the UK, did they go to any of those pilots?
