American Aero Visit

Mon Feb 15, 2016 7:48 pm

Stopped by there last week to get a few pics of the current inventory and the PBY wing progress. There is always something interesting going on there. For those interested in a few plane pics.....

Thanks Pat. I took a few but just put up the ones that offer particulars should anyone have an interest to follow up on the aircraft. I have been following a couple of their projects. John

Thanks for posting, John.

Any chance you took some Hellcat pics (that you can also post)?

I didn't take any of a Hellcat. In fact I didn't even see it. Could be under the plastic or in another hanger?? I'm just down the road from AA. I'll make another drive over and look around.

No need to make a special trip. These are about the last I've seen on the web (from last May):

The P-40 was flown a few days ago by Steve Hinton. Tondelayo was test flown and ready for the National Tour. The Hellcat and TF are the current push for Collings. Toulouse is about a month away from running.

That looks like it maybe the Hellcat under the plastic. I was thinking it maybe in there. I also didn't take any pics of the Russian mobile launch system. The rocket looked like it was freshly painted.

Here are some more. The Hellcat fuselage is in the "monkey haus" until it gets painted. The center section, outer wings and QEC are all there behind the temporary building. Barbie is coming together quickly, just waiting on a top turret glass. The L-1 is for a private owner, and I didn't ask permission to post photos. The Evergreen P-38 and B-17 will be arriving sometime later this spring. No timeline is set.

So, what were "Gentleman Jim" and "Petie 2nd" doing there? Maintenance/ annual, or just in the neighborhood?
