IT's worth noting that there wre many different "Mustangs available in the 1960's. The Cavalier P-51 would have been a P-51 surplused from the RCAF in airworthy condition with excellent maintenance in 1960-63. THen gone through and brought up to like new condition . De-militarized, expensive paint, leather interior, second seat and luggage compartment, new avionics, the best of everything. Cavalier had huge warehouses of NOS parts. You were buying a really great aircraft. They also built export versions for Third World militaries.
There were also Mustangs available that were surplused in the 1940's, ex gate guards, stuff assembled from wrecks, a little bit of everything. Twenty five years after WW II the hoses would've been rotten, prop needing overhaul, rotten fabric on the rudder, etc.

$100 hourly rate? DANG!

Remember, that's when you could buy a new Mustang convertible for $3000!
