Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's Westland Lysander crash landed in a field near Cayuga, Ontario after having engine problems. The pilot and passenger survived with no injuries. It appears the left gear buckled and the prop hit the ground from the pictures.

Very glad everyone got away without injuries but dang it sure hurts seeing the pic. Hopefully CWH have the means and wherewithal to get the old girl back together again.

I am always thankful when I hear that no one was seriously hurt. Thank goodness!

Glad Rick and his passenger are alright
If indeed the gear is buckled and the prop is damaged this is a blow to the aircraft
The gear is one piece for both side and those props are very rare
I don't think its going to be too easy to get replacements.

Thank goodness everyone is O.K. I'm sure they'll have their Lysander repaired eventually. Kudos to the CWH for their upfront and honest reporting.

Glad everyone is ok.

Without wanting to speculate at all, it's look the Mercury engine of the Lysanders are very often a source of trouble.

The Lysander of the SOT here in Belgium made at least two emergency landings after having engine trouble. The last one in 2001 whith heavy damage, plane not flown since. (Unfortunatly no news available on her restoration)

Looks the very specific landing gear take a direct hit. Not an easy part to fix.
There was an interesting article in FlyPast of this month about the restoration of the landing gear of the Shuttleworth collection Lysander in the UK.

Prop I was told is not too bad to source.

But some of the magnesium parts of the Mercury like the reduction gear case are pretty rare to get in god conditions...

Happy that all are safe and sound.....pity considering the number of years for the rebuilt.

I wonder where they are with the Boly???

Farther off than I'd like it to be. I believe we will see the TBM and Trader in the air before the Boly gets any farther. And now with this project, I'm sure it will be pushed back.

Haven't seen our Belgian Lysander since it's emergency landing The gear is a very difficult part on this aircraft. Hope it gets repaired!

The engines aren't very good. Most of the postwar civilian Lizzies ended up in a field torn up after engine failure. It would be heresy to change the engine type but that's what I would do if it were mine.

I saw it a few years after the 2001 accident : at this time they were still hosted in one of the Sabena Technics hanger.
They were restoring two Lysanders (one for static display at the Army Museum and their own to flight) and had a Lodestar awaiting restoration.

A few years later they were forced to move to a tiny hanger on the other side of the airfield without a direct access to the taxi way (One day, they put the plane for static display on the military apron and had to use a crane to lift the plane above a fence. So I have doubt on the fact of operating historic plane from Zaventem)

Unfortunatly, there is absolutly none information of them about the restoration of their plane since 5 or 6 years.
At this point, I have doubts about seeing the Lysander flying one day.
