The CAF put on some spirited shows back in the day. This was taken at Reno in 1976. That pylon to the right is 45 feet high.

Neil, I have no doubt that you have some shots of the one wheel up touch and go that they used to do.
(I have a print but no way to scan it).
That being said, I'm entirely O.K. that no one does that any longer.

I remember in the early eighties, I think it was Jim Orton that flew Sentimental Journey at Reno. He used to taxi up in front of the stands, face us and "take a bow" by lifting the tail. Eventually I'll run across a pic or two as I scan my stuff.

It was Jim Orton and I have a 8mm home movie of him doing it at Falcon Field. Jim also took Sentimental Journey around the pylons at Reno one years and took first place in the B-17 Class and Liars contest. They used to have his trophy in the CAF museum in Mesa

Say, if anybody hangs out with TR these days, how about an update? I started volunteering with flight museum outfits as soon as got my driver's license in 1974, and TR was one, if not the, first warbird I actually laid hands on. I have completely lost touch with it lately.

Can't say I'm involved with TR but they do let Houstonians know about their presence occasionally. I see them flying over H'town a few times a year at a fairly low altitude. If you spend much time out by the monument/Battleship, you're bound to see them go by there too.

I remember seeing TR at Hobby for a few years while the engines were being worked. That was a few years back. They are based out of Hooks now.

Texas Raiders lives at Tomball Jet Center at Hooks airport. We will be offering flights and tours of the airplane on August 13 over at Gill Aviation on the East side of the field.
