The first video took fewer than 2 minutes for Justin Taylan to make an appearance. What a shocker.

I just talked to Justin before the preview came out. I like Justin because he as helped find several wreck sites. But I haven't been brave enough to tell him I don't agree with his political beliefs regarding the wrecks. AFAIN no wrecks have been recovered recently, and they are not just up and disappearing.

It's just a grabber to start some conspiracy and cause a ban on wreck recovery. Even if a couple wrecks have been taken, there are still hundreds of wrecks out there.

I really don't want to open this egg but the U.S. aircraft wrecks should still be considered U.S. property.

The story about John Weldon's P-38 wreck/recovery, as presented in the news piece, doesn't jive with the information or photos presented even on Justin Taylan's website:
http://www.pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/p ... 66534.htmlThe news piece also does not talk about the fact that Grienert/HARS are currently in the process of restoring a complete P-38 for the PNG National Museum (though I acknowledge that it seems some other past promises have gone unfulfilled).

I note there is no mention of the huge effort and money required to recover these wrecks, or the fact that these 'revered' relics continue to be scrapped.
The 'millions of dollars' figure is banded about- what about the hundreds of thousands to restore these wrecks to static and the millions required to get them back into the air, so that future generations can be reminded of their relatives sacrifices, no matter what uniform they wore - no mention of that.
A bit of balance would have been good, rather than the sensationalist witch hunt.

or the fact there is at least one fully restored plane waiting for its museum to be built before it goes back....she's been waiting a while now.

After watching the 60 minutes videos, I just reread the Warbird Digest (issue 67) article on the recovery of the Swamp Ghost B-17. The article was written by Kenneth Wallace Fields. He claims to have participated in the recovery, and helped David Tallichet draft the agreement to recover the Ghost. Eventually, the rights to recovery were passed to Mr. Fred Hagen, who succeeded in recovering the Ghost. At no time is the name Robert Greinert ever mentioned.
The article is very detailed, running eight pages, and including pictures of Mssrs Fields and Hagen at the Ghost, along with many pictures of the actual recovery.
My question is this: WHO IS LYING? 60 Minutes or Warbird Digest?.
Right now, I would say 60 Minutes has a severe credibility problem. Do they have pictures of Robert Greinert participating in the recovery of the B-17 Swamp Ghost?

Even if they argued that they are property of the US Government, 75 years of storage fees would still afford the PNG Government compensation.

Storage fees would be nowhere near the bill for kicking the Japanese out of their country. Just sayin.

Maybe we owe them storage fees for our un-recovered MIAs there?
Australia has a few thousand MIAs still there somewhere too.

Having known David Talichet and his stories bout airplane recov gone bad like when he tried to get Swam Ghost out of there a number of years ago and Lady be Good. That stuff is like a nightmare start to end. That can fall apart anytime for any reason. And any monies spent are gone. Now what the Aussie tv did not ask about the fees paid to NG Government to take the airplane out of country. Not even asking bout the cost of the recovery its self. So Im thinking that older fellow who owns the land got screwed by his government. For not paying him part of money they twisred out of the Aussie with the deep pockets. So we thank Mr Deeppockets for all his trouble. And just one more bit while Im here. Its our bloody airplane if you forgot sort of like leaving your hat on the bar after a night of Johnny Walker blacklabel.

Greinert is mentioned in the PNG deposition: also he's not placed in a good light on the Swamp Ghost website:
