So how many of the forum hunt for wrecks

I'd really like to make the hike to see a Helldiver site. I've researched (if I dare use that term) a few other wrecks I'd like to make the trip too also.

So far I've only visited one crash site, a B-47 in NYS. Not much to see over all but a great hike with great views.

I found out about a B-25 Crash site near Newburgh, NY. The pictures I saw look like there are some large pieces left. Do you know anything about that one?
Also a T-33 site and some General Aviation sites also

Not too big on tramping through the woods, but do want to learn to scuba and do some wreck diving

I scuba dive but havent ever seen any plane wrecks uder the water.
Above on land sounds like it might be fun.

Outwitting larger forms of wildlife, cults, militant groups, etc...
Outwitting smaller forms of wildlife (mosquitos, tsetse flies, etc)...
Creative alternatives for toilet paper...
Pulling woodticks out of your hide at the end of the day...

I think once you tried it you'd be hooked.

Living in suburban central NJ severely limits my ability to go wreck hunting, hehe.

It is something I would love to do though.

You might be surprised what is within a few hours drive from you. I'm a bit shocked at what I'm finding! I live right outside of Albany NY, which is about a 3 hour drive from central NJ.

not many wrecks in ohio....... to ass flat!! especially none worth mentioning. i know that if anywhere here in the land of buckeyes that lake erie holds the treasure. otherwise i make a concerted effort to go wreckchasing as the opportunity allows. i go to vegas every year for a trade show. last year for 200 bucks i went out with robb hill now of albuqueque new mexico (did i spell it right :?:

) a wreckchaser author, collector / dealer seller of antique aviation. he showed me a 1st class day for 5 hours. people must realize that most wrecks are chards of metal, & that it does not often occur that an entire fuselage is found that is recognizable, so don't be dissappointed.. as for the experience........ beyond description!!!! to any wixer in surrounding states of ohio, i'll go wreckchasing any time!!! i've got alot of camping gear too. just let me know. great thread herr colonel!!

Well here in canada, we have alot of neat stuff to look for, been hunting since the late 70,s.found and help recover a PBY_5a from labrador its still with Acam,Found and recoverd a Lockheed Hudson fusalage Fk-466, still with Acam and Hurricane Bw-854 that later ended up with Matt Satler.Also helped recovered a Harvard MK2 from NewBrunswick in 1990,it later ended up with Vince OConner.Found and recovered a Aronca C-3,its still with Acam.And also located a Grumman Goose its still underwater, severally broken up.

Hi all

at some time during every week I allocate time to wreck hunting. I do field work at least once a month and have averaged a major trip each year for the last four. I have recovered P-40 and most Australian types including spitfire parts. In addition to the P-39 identities and my own project I am currently working on a Corsair recovery feasability plan, a Hellcat site confirmation project, a kittyhawk recovery plan and most likely another P-39 / P-400 recovery. My preference will be the P-39 of course and the rest I will hand ball to other interested parties here in Australia.

I need a holiday I think?

both located within 20km's of each other. Corsair is in the water with the wings, engine, main spar and some of the cockpit area still in place. Have'nt been able to locate the rear half. Its in pretty good condition really.

Hellcat ran off side of runway and spun into jungle, deemed written off, scrapped of many parts and hulk left in situ. I have pics of the cosair and awaiting follow up images of Hellcat. Both aircraft have been subjected to years of abuse by locals looking for usable bits and pieces however there is enough of both to provide a reasonable basis for a project of each type.

I expect to visit both in the next 4 to 6 months to draft a recovery plan for the best project. I have no details on serial numbers etc and I am relying alot on a local who is a good friend and has worked and lived in the region for over 20 years. As I said I'm not particularly interested in these types and will probably end up acting on behalf of some interested parties here in Australia.
