I saw one P-51D at Oshkosh this past summer, beautifully restored and painted (at least from the outside) that had incorrect U.S. insignia...the star went to the edge of the roundel instead of being encompassed by the 'same color' blue surround. It really stood out when looking at the airplane. It would seem that any paint shop would get that basic marking correct. I understand owners and personal preferences, but you would think some basics would be covered.

And this argument right here is why when I buy my P-51 I'm going to paint it in down-to-the-centimeter exact markings of Miss Suzi-Q, and I'm going to take it to every airshow within a thousand miles and I'm going to park a couple of beautiful scantily clad women over it all day. And I'll sit there under the wing in my chair, knocking back some cool ones, and anytime anybody makes a comment about the paint scheme I'll hoist one in their honor. Might even ask them if they want to go for a ride in my gaudily, inaccurately painted P-51...and when they fall all over themselves saying yes, I'll just laugh at them....and fly my gaudily, inaccurately painted P-51 home.

Start saving your money. pop2

There's a few out there who've got both figured out.

HA - this reminds me of a time while at a Ford Shelby convention this guy pulled up in a 2005 Ford GT and parked right next to the car I was there with. I offered to watch it for him and he told me I wasn't, "a blonde cheerleader in a short skirt". If you have the cash and an outgoing personality you too can have the kind of problem the guy in the photo has LMAO!

Yeah,
I'm so sorry that Erickson is flying the airplane regularly and has operated a fleet of WWII airplanes for what, 40 years? Really upsets me when they do that.
Get real.
Hey Brad, I'm going to paint mine red first, then go for maybe a zebra stripe job like E.D. Weiner's '67 scheme.

I'd do the infamous red Mustang as seen on the Revell box top of the 60s where some (many?) Mistook red for OD in an old b&W photo.

Minor quibbles on nose art aside, I thought we decided, the owner gets to paint HIS airplane his way? :)

When I go to car shows, the only women who love my various cars are middle aged or older.....so I don't get the attention of (seemingly) pneumatic-enhanced women as seen above. :) :)

A red Bentley convertible....like to be inconspicuous, I see. :) :) :)

Actually, I've had two red Mustangs...of the Ford, not North American variety.

It looks like the lady on the right just lost the "Who Wore it Better?" vote.
