I know that this was USAAF and it went to the Navy, anyone have any idea what the logo on the side means and where this could have been taken?

Thanks!

The nose lettering reads:

Naval Air Transport Service.

THERE is a BuNo on the upper tail, not easily readable, probably 3945 or something like that.

Lastly, who is this "Admiral Hack" : )

Saludos,

Tulio

[Before I get the lecture, that was a joke]

The prototype johnson rocket was a taildragger, but this pic is of a cadet. The original johnson rocket is owned by Lena McGinty and on loan to the Sun-N-Fun museum.

Didn't the navel aircraft that were part of the Military Air Transport Service still keep the Navel Air Transport sevice Logo along with the MATS logo? Iseems I've see that in more then one photo.

Hey ! Check out the gunports in the windows. Didn't know the R5D had those.

Naval Air Transport was like SAC ? MATS, I could believe, but SAC? Am I missing something here ?

Before SAC was SAC(Strategic Air Command) and MATS was MATS SAC was not sure of the S maybe southern, but A was airlift command. I do know my father served in it during the war at Hamilton field Ca.
