The FAA registry says it's a Thunder Mustang and the registration date is July 2016.

I am surprised that some enterprising person hasn't used the moldless composite technique to build full scale replicas of WW2 types for use in the film and advertising industry; basically full size versions of the old WAR Aircraft 1/2 scale replicas. It wouldn't matter much what engine was used and you could even engineer out various bad handling or design characteristics. They would be cheaper to build and operate than originals and could be stored when not in use. I suppose CGI will catch up sooner or later but so far no matter how good it is I can always spot it even if it is only because the aircraft are doing something I know is impossible.

Much like the variable dynamics of the car, there are already flying aircraft that can simulate the handling of other planes. Just imagine motion capturing the movements of a modified Extra 300 for the slower stuff and L-39 for the faster. That in itself would be a quantum leap forward in CGI aircraft.

Sorry to say but I think the movie replica days are behind us.

I'm totally over the Thunder Mustangs. Non-stop advertising in the warbird and North American section of Trade A Plane" and Barnstormers. Will kinda be glad when all the kits are consumed. They seem to crash one every couple years.

Years ago, I saw one in the Ezell shop, I was rather impressed.
It seems the "right" size for a fighter (the Mustang is rather large...unnecessary so for a sport plane since you won't be escorting B-17s to Berlin) and it sure looked like fun.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know it's not a historic artifact, but I'm not sure many Mustang owners need to be flying an expensive piece of history to show to the guys in the country club and impress the girls.

Obviously, I'm not talking about the Steve Hintons or the flying museums of the world, but given the number of warbird destroyed by guys doing questionable antics (gross inexperience/stupidity, Scud-running, the recent case of the allegedly high pilot, etc.) A case can be made that there should be more replicas out there.

I guess what I would do "If I won the lottery" is set up an FAA approved shop building and start rebuilding wooden aircraft. Tiger Moths, Culver PQ-14s, Bucker BU 181 Bestmanns, Timm N2t-1's , Cessna Bamboo Bombers, Lockheed Vegas, Fairchild PT-19's, plus small batches of JURCA Spitfires and other full scale replicas. Imagine located where labor is cheap and plentiful and being able to restore the numbers of some of the once numerous types.
There's something magical and classy about a well restored wooden aircraft.

I've heard that when the Doolittle Vega recently sold, some parts and fuselage molds were sold...for a very low price.

Hopefully, somebody is planning a project.
A friend (who has done many projects and knows whereof he speaks) seriously considered doing a Vega project...and said technically, it's very doable.
