Agree with everyone else - also, if you call ahead and have a small group, you can arrange for a base escort over to the USS Utah memorial on Ford Island.

I agree with Peter regarding lenses. I didn't have a wide angle and my pics inside the Bowfin were terrible (could have been much better).

Also when we were having the conducted tour aboard the Missouri the USS Ronald Regan carrier passed close by on its way out. We were told by our escort not to photograph it at all in case the armed security guys mistook our cameras for weapons. Don't know if he was joking with us but we readily complied. Nice to see they were on the ball.

Dec. , 2010 went to Hawaii for cruise, went 2 days early to see sights. Seen tours listed and inquired, not to my style. Asked a worker how to get to Pearl. Just take the Hotel shuttle for I think $5 each way and call when you want to be picked up, deal!!!We seen the Arizona, get tickets ahead of visit as mentioned. Crawled all thru the Missouri, engine room to Admirals combat chair , went thru the submarine, same class as the one at Patriots Point , S Carolina . Seen some tours of Missouri that just walked about the deck , I wanted to get dirty going everywhere and I did. Pacific Aviation Museum was great, climbed Diamond Head and went thru the emplacements , cool. Stayed at Hilton Hawaiian Village before cruise. Time flies and wanted to see more , just couldn't.

Ive been twice but had to take day trips because we were in Maui.

1st on the list is the Arizona, you have to do it, its religious. I would love to have gone to the new museum on Ford last time but did not have time......but I keep up with them and would highly recommend it. Like others have said, Punchbowl is also very good. Also if you have the time the drive out towards Kaneohe is pretty cool, its still active and Im not sure you can get base access but the mountain range (name is slipping my mind) view gives you a good idea of it.

All in all whatever you choose to do, will be great. Well, maybe great is a bad word but yall know what I mean.

Be sure to bring a bunch of money for the gift shop at the memorial, they have some really cool stuff.

Mahalo. :)

Visited there over the summer while RIMPAC 2016 was on. CVN-74, USS John C. Stennis was tied up across from the Arizona museum with its contingent of FA-18's were secured on the flight deck. Ditto on the crowds, they're everywhere. Don't try to take the tour buses with Japanese writing, they're for the the Japanese tourists on the Nippon Airways tours.

I can't see how anyone can be cooped up in a tube but the sub is a perfect example of a USN fleet boat. Spend some time reading the memorials for the boats still on patrol. A very moving experience.

The Pacific Air Museum is a nice tour; it was an honor to walk on hallowed ground.

Last time I was there I spent most of a day at Dillingham Field, flying sailplanes. I got checked out on the first flight then did several others with family members. A great way to see that end of the island and tourist rides were not that expensive as I recall. Much cheaper than a helicopter tour, and a whole lot more fun if you are rated.

Last time I went it was for the start of a Tiger Cruise. We went out from the carrier to the memorial for the morning flag raising. VERY moving.

We were there a month ago. An amazing place to visit. I did notice to the bow side of the memorial small parts of the Arizona are no longer visible above the waterline. I wonder if this is because of rising sea levels or is it because of deterioration of the ship itself.

Hawaii's World War II Military Sites, A Comprehensive Guide Focusing on Oahu by Charles Jones is a very detailed guide. Maps and instructions how to see things, A DOD identification is very helpful. I'm sure Amazon has the book.
