Yes and I understand Maurice Kirk has been forced to abandon, sadly. He's OK but his Cub is a bit bent I gather.

I have been following it and it looks like a great adventure. The car guys have been doing these historic rallies to China, Burma, etc., for years. Great to see the airplane crowd do one.

Maurice Kirk certainly shattered the myth that there are no old, bold pilots, didn't he?

Old, bold and shattered just about sums it up.

Mind you, I admit to knowing nothing more about events than what I see on internet pages.

Still, a difficult and interesting -- even glorious! -- journey.

As far as I can determine, the hardest part is the political/social one, as is made clear in this amazing trip-report of a Fairchild 24W that flew from South Africa to Oshkosh: http://www.warnerenginecompany.com/VWO% ... shkosh.pdf

I heard on the BBC about the detention in Ethiopia last week of 20 pilots for a day or 2 over supposed illegal airspace entry...political interruptions indeed! pop2
