I can't help with the P-38 but, the "cool pickup" is a Ford Ranchero of about 1970 vintage. They were manufactured between, I believe, 1957 and 1979 and I've heard they're being reintroduced this year.

The P-38 is great, but that Ranchero is super-cool! It's a '71 Ranchero GT ('70 and '71 are hard to tell apart). Man, I'd love to own both!

I believe that is Palomar Airport in Carlsbad CA, probably late 70's early 80's. There was a shop there called Cinema Air (can't remember who owned it) that did some work on warbirds there. I think that Tom Friedkins used to be based out of there. At various times during that time frame, I saw a P-38, F6F, TBM, Storch & if I remember right, a P-39 or P-63.

I have some photos somewhere, I'll see if I can dig them up.

Hope that helps,

Mac

This is 44-26961 N38DH most likely after purchase by the late John Deahl of Denver, CO. He had Dick Martin at Palomar take care of the plane. Coincidentally Martin had (together with R. A. Wardell) owned this 38 in the late 40s! Check out this earlier thread:

And for more photos, this thread:
