Second, the warbirds that have been restored over there, and there may be a few being restored as we speak have all been for U.S. and British collectors and left the country. Migs, Yak's, Polikarpovs, LAGG's, and P-63's have all ended up over here.
Second, if someone was to start a collection therre they would simply purchase what they wanted from a museum, using the corrupt system of government. They certainly wouldn't pay retail.

Incorrect, there is growing warbird movement, particularly through one collector who has a number of flying warbirds ( two MiG-3, one of each of the Polikarpov fighters, Yak-3 and soon an IL-2.). He is actively sourcing aircraft, including bombers. A decommissioned airfield has been purchased and the plan is to create a similar set up to Duxford, Wanaka etc.

Fantastic news Dave! I was not aware of this. Are you at liberty to state the gentleman's name or the name of the organization? If not, I understand. I'm glad to hear this!

I think I may have confused Zadorozhny with the gentleman DaveM2 referred to.

Zac, you are correct it is Zadorozhny, who also runs an automobile / aircraft museum in Moscow. There are other collectors, but they wish to remain anonymous for the time being, we will report when we can in CW.

Andy, Zadorozhny has an original Yak-1 recovered from the same lake as his IL-2. The Yak is undergoing restoration to static, the IL-2 should fly mid year.

Andy, I am serious when I say, we should go in on this project together. 8) You know how much I want a Yak, and "Yellow 44" was a -1...

For those worried that the A-20 will be going overseas to 'Russia' - if the purchaser and their location are any indication as to where the airplane will finally reside - I'm looking forward to seeing it at airshows here in the U.S.
