Which Aircraft Collection...?

Fri Apr 14, 2017 10:49 am

... contains both a Fairey Swordfish, and a Yak (not sure which model). Or it may be another Russian fighter.

I was sent a photo recently of a Swordfish in brown and green camo, no number, and I can't place it. But in the photo there is also a wingtip with a Red Star under it.

Thanks,

Dave

Was this a recent picture or possibly an older one? I know that the Santa Monica Museum of Flying used to have a Swordfish on display along with the original Yak-3 that was on loan to them. I think this is the Swordfish which is now with the CAF and mentioned by Dan above.

Dave - These aircraft are on display in the CAF High Sky Wing Midland Army Air Force Museum in Midland. The photos were taken before or very shortly after the CAF Museum closed, as soon after that, we folded the right wing of the Swordfish and rearranged the hangar, to make room for new displays. The fighter is an I-16 restored in New Zealand and donated to the CAF by a member many years ago. The Swordfish was restored as a static only display and is not airworthy. The Polikarpov I-16 had not flown for many years and may not have an airworthy engine. Hope that helps. All the best.

Randy
