I agree this type of topic really does not need to be a part of WIX
The Earhart topic just brings out all the Kooks and their ridiculous theories that are nothing more than hearsay .....shoe heals , cold crème jars, turtle bones , underwater images that look nothing like an airplane , military patrols that claim to have data plates but are conveniently lost , phantom signals, Japanese capture yada, yada, yada . This is National Enquirer crap

But I'm sure the next photo in the archive is from the German castle with a basement full of DO-335's!

This will be interesting to see how the History Channel responds.

Amelia Earhart Documentary Is Fake, Claims Expert
[International Business Times]

,International Business Times•July 5, 2017

An upcoming documentary airing Sunday on the History Channel titled "Amelia Earhart: The Lost Evidence" planned to rewrite history by shedding light on Amelia Earheart's mysterious disappearance, but an expert on Eartheart claimed on Wednesday that the documentary is a fraud, according to TMZ.

Ric Gillespie, the owner of The International Group For Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR), an organization that investigates Earheart's disappearance, claims the famed aviator isn't present with her navigator Fred Noonan in a blurry photo that the documentary believes to be real.

While there are many theories that have emerged regarding Earheart's disappearance, Gillespie and TIGHAR don't stand behind this one.

Gillespie, who has known about the photograph that the History Channel reveals it evaluated for about a year in the upcoming documentary, told TMZ that "there were a lot of mercenaries in that area at the time ... so it could be any white woman in the pic — the features aren't recognizable."

The Earhart expert claims that "she would not have had enough fuel to get to the Marshall Islands, where the photo was allegedly taken," primarily because her final signal was discovered roughly 100 miles from that location.

It's worth noting that the photo also doesn't match smoothly with the documentary's captive theory. Gillespie clarified that "none of the alleged captors [in the photo] have guns or look threatening." Two Caucasians pictured appear to be engaging in casual activity, hanging freely on a pier at the Marshall Islands.

Nonetheless, Gillespie and fellow members of TIGHAR continue to stand behind their initial theory, which is that Earhart survived the 1937 airplane crash and died as a castaway on Nikumaroro, Kiribati, an island located in the western Pacific Ocean.

The photograph at hand was discovered in the National Archives by Les Kinney, a former United States Treasury Agent. It was released ahead of the documentary, which is slated for a July 9 premiere, as a promotional tool to spark interest amongst potential viewers. The alleged photo shows a woman and a man, who is presumed to be Earheart and Noonan, surrounded by a group of island natives on a dock in the Marshall Islands.

"If you look at her, you look at the body, the build, the short hair, the fact that she's a Caucasian and when you look at this individual over here, this taller man is Caucasian. Fred Noonan, Earhart's navigator," Kinney said in the documentary.

According to People, Former FBI Assistant Director Shawn Henry claims in the documentary that "we got a straight answer from the government" on her disappearance, an event for which he believes "someone went to great lengths to make sure the world never knew the real story."

Whether The History Channel or TIGHAR's theories on Earheart's disappearance are accurate are to be determined. However, TIGHAR has had previous success in unearthing pertinent evidence regarding the 1937 incident, including bone fragments that were found several months after the organization's 2012 expedition. Reportedly, they could remnants of Earhart's body.

And apologies for being a bit tetchy but empty fuel tanks are not buoyancy aids: they have an open feed end and an open vent end which will let the water in (as they have done on many, many occasions): there is no reason for the Earhart/Noonan aircraft to float any more than any other aircraft which runs out of fuel and ditches.

I agree with quemerford's comments, and thank him for kind words. I also shake my head about assumptions concerning buoyancy and an intact aircraft at the bottom of the ocean. Those who support the 'crashed and sank' hypothesis generally think that AE would have been at maybe 1000' altitude when she ran out of fuel. She was not as well experienced a pilot as many assume, and particularly after such a long/stressful flight, may well not have been able to dead-stick to a ditch-landing. I think a crash was more likely, which would mean disarticulated aircraft remains at the bottom of the Pacific.

I wonder what assumptions have been made by those who have looked for her on the ocean bottom. Are they looking for an intact aircraft? Are they looking for and can they adequately resolve aircraft fragments?

I am also curious about the 38' estimate for the aircraft length from the blurry image on the single photo. This can be roughly estimated if the length of the cargo ship is known, but my guess is that the ship and its dimensions are unknown, or from a stereopair of photos, but that also does not seem to be the case. Also, the aircraft (if this is indeed an aircraft) does not appear to be oriented the same way as the ship, which would complicate measurement. From my experience, anyone who would state such a value on such evidence HAS NO CREDIBILITY WHATSOEVER: someone with experience would state +/- on the value to show the level of uncertainty.

True, but I am finding it more difficult...

This whole non-story relies purely on conjecture posing as fact, and lots of things that are difficult to disprove: jars of cream that could have belonged to AH (but equally could have belonged to Adolf Hitler because he was "reportedly" keen on cross-dressing - go on prove he wasn't!), bone fragments which could have been from AH's skeleton (but equally could have come from anyone else who has died in the Pacific) and so on. The key point is that it's always a case of "prove they didn't", which is a difficult argument to win, even when presented with childishly naive 'interpretations' of an old photograph. Same with that supposed metallic part found some time ago, which could have come from AH's Lockheed, but equally could have come from pretty much anything else.

And I cannot believe I've just wasted 5 minutes of my life writing this!!!

Time for a :drink3:

Wow! A story that uses the word fraud and mentions TIGHAR but doesn't use the word in relation to the group!

A first!!!! :) :) :)

The only factual *evidence* I've seen from TIGHAR is that the Pacific is pretty big, very wet & dotted with islands.

I just watched about 40 minutes of the farce/show. Don't waste your time.

Page 99 Dan. Thanks for the link! Like the torpedo down the throat of the Death Star, that kills that story!
EDIT
I didn't watch the History Channel show. Too much hubbub with too little info with a healthy dose of wild speculation. Hopefully it won't see the airwaves again. But, that does leave an opening for a new HC documentary about the Gubmint plot to discredit the "True Story" about Amelia Earhart. pop2
