NMUSAF getting new toys "NOW WIH PICS"

Sun Apr 30, 2006 7:45 pm

I drove by the Restoration Facitlity and out front I noticed some new aircraft. The first was a camoflaged A-7 and it made me wonder what was install for it and where it was headed since the museum already has a SLUFF of display.
The Next aircraft was the most interesting. It looked to be either a disassembled MIG 25 or 31 and here's the Kicker. It appears to be in worn Iraqi markings. I know the museum is exercising efforts to build a cold war collection but i was wondering how they were getting aircraft from Iraq? Is this through war prize seizure or through an agreement Iraqi officials?
Will be neat to see what else filters out of Iraq. I'll stop by with my camera and take pictures tomorrow.

looked and awful alot like the MIG 25 below.

Might be one of the MiGs they found buried out in the desert.

The code numbers sprayed on under the inlets are different. Great to see the Keystone of the 28th division emblazoned on it.

The Camo A-7 was probably the one recently removed from the Yankee Air Museum's air park. Not sure where it is going.

Sorry that's all I have of her right now. As can be seen by the shadow I was peaking through the open hanger door. But not to fear, my father , daughter and I will be on hand for the C-141 retirement this saturday and will stop by the facility for my pictures.

A few more.

Are they restoring the P-75 now, because it looked like it was getting worked on? That's news if they are! Thanks very much for the pictures!

I believe so. The P-75 has been off display for quite some time now. And when she was on display in the Annex she was looking a bit haggered and long in the tooth. The airframe was collection of dents and oxidized aluminum. She looks great as of yesterday.

Many thanks for the update, that's great news indeed. Looks like some large chunks of the XC-99 are now at WP as well. How much of her is there now?

Cheers,
Richard
