Outstanding! brings back a lot of memories of my days in the NAVY wrenching on props and jets. :drink3:

These photos were taken at Ie Shima on August 19, 1945. Notice how the one soldier doesn't seem to move at all out of the way.

The B-25J's in these photos are all quite late production examples (B-25J-20-NC and B-25J-25-NC) - note that most, if not all, don't have the "three-piece" windscreen, and the distinctive nose wheel tires that can be seen on a few of them are also indicative of late-production B-25J's and do show up on factory-new B-25's from/around that same series of production and later. All of these Mitchells of course arrived in Theatre in bare aluminum from the factory, and it is really neat to see the one photo showing the care put into masking the stars & bars and applying areas of primer before spraying the camouflage in the field.

The last batch of photos with the Surrender Betties was taken on Ie Shima, where the 17th shared space with a number of other units including the 43rd BG "Ken's Men". Mark, I had seen a good number of these from the AFHRA site (I think) but you seem to have found even more... that's fantastic!

Yep, tho Ie Shima photos are familiar it's great to see the perspective of someone else who was there. They may not be your photos Mark, but we are appreciative of your consistant habit of dragging up great stuff...many thanks again!

Does anyone know if the escort B-25s ever landed after the Bettys and C-54?

Looks like a retread on the nose wheel, never noticed that before.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe those nose wheel tires were designed and molded that way to reduce water spray into the engines when taking off on wet fields/runways.

Too bad that particular Betty wasn't saved, pretty historic.

I wish those Betty photos could be cleaned up by someone with advanced Photoshop skills. They would be even more stunning!

I thought that, kinda neat though, the paint patina left behind & the gun blast marks.
I did think maybe they have just been removed for sevicing? the complete pod being easier to remove, but no ammo feed slot left in the fuselage?

Great post Mark, stunning photos, thanks for the time & effort to post.

Firstly, this is an amazing collection of photos. I have, by the way, a mint cope of the 17th TRS year book printed in Australia.

Thanks for sharing Mark...

My comment was referring to Marks reply to my/our first complement(s) to him on the 1st page of this thread Invader26. You need to keep up with the discussion before you choose to brace someone up young man.

EDIT
Just a reminder Invader26, if you feel you have a beef with someones comment shoot 'em a PM and give 'em a chance to explain. I believe we're all friends here. No worries...
