This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I was around them off and on through much of the 1990s when they'd swing through Florida. I agree fully, they were the opposite of the stereotype, "Jes git her turning and we'll figger it out later," Bubba type that gave warbird operators a bad rep in the 70s and 80s.
Yes, Collings is a good group of good aviators. That's why I'm surprised to hear of this, the same as many of the rest of you here, I'm sure.

Very sad. Nine-O-Nine was my first warbird ride. My dad spent a lot of time with the Collings Foundation and they are professional all around.
from the ATC they reported a #4 engine issue.
"its our number 4 engine we would like to return to blow it out"

There are several ways an engine out can go from a minor issue to a major problem quickly. You can shut down the wrong engine. Maybe a prop didn’t feather. Lots of other possibilities.

Horrible news. I don't know what else to day. Prayers for the families involved and everyone at the Collings Foundation. Has anyone heard from Jim Harley?

Sad news and my condolences to all involved.
FYI, Jim hasn't been involved with the Collings foundation for some time.

This is so tragic. To lose an aircraft is one thing but the loss of life is completely devastating. Prayers to all those involved. - Ryan

Nine-O-Nine is the only B-17 I've ever flown on, all thanks to a member on this forum. I remember it like it was yesterday and it's one of the best experiences I've had in relation to anything in my life. It's horrible to imagine the thrill of being able to take a flight in a B-17 turning so suddenly and ending this way. It's so hard to process or put into words.
My condolences to the family and friends of those who were lost in the accident.

Saw him responding to the accident today on Facebook. I don't believe he's been flying for Collings in the past few years.

Just catching up on the worsening news since last post
Horrible news.
Going by others theories, if trying to get back onto 06, and where they ended up, if 3 & 4 had given were they trying a shortened tight final to try and cut the corner to get her down ASAP and the right wing dropped too much and touched?
Thoughts with the families of those affected and all at Collings.
