FHCAM ME-262 First Engine Runs on Airframe

I was waiting for someone to post this on here, but didn't see a thread...if you go on Flying Heritage's Facebook page, (no account necessary) there are 3 videos from Wednesday of them starting one of the Jumo 004 engines. It's really interesting to watch...the starter motor sounds like a chainsaw! I can't wait to see this thing fly one day. Enjoy!

I was watching it yesterday..and I was thinking leaf blower when I heard that noise. either way its gas powered aux motor to spool up the engine. Just not sure if it is mechanically spinning the fans or blowing air.

pretty cool to watch

I's a 2-stroke starter motor clutched to spin the turbine shaft. If it's original, it's a Riedel 10hp @6000 rpm electric started from the cockpit or manually at the front of the intake by means of a D-ring in the cone in the center(also contains the gasoline tank for the Riedel).

That is cool. I love the sound of the starter spooling up, then as it shuts off you can hear the jet spooling up behind it.

Yep, the little 2-stroke running balls out...silence...then the contrasting muffled combustion pushing the spool-up of the turbine...neat sounds.

Here are some detail photos from a walkaround of the aircraft, including a close-up of one of the Riedel two-stroke engines: http://clubhyper.com/reference/me262unveilingjm_1a.htm

In-case anyone may have missed it, here is video that the FHCAM posted yesterday of the Me-262 taxiing and conducting more engine runs (make sure you have your speaker/headphone volume turned down before you click play):

Really neat to see it move under its own power. I never imagined I would see a Me-262 return to airworthy, or even the replicas. Did get yo see Yagan's 2 seater fly a few years ago.
