C46 Commando HK-3150

Some sad news.

All of the C46's in the world just got a little bit more valuable.

Curtiss C46 Reg. HK-3150 which had been parked at Bogata El Dorado, Columbia for many years, was evidently scrapped in Sept of 2019. I had always hoped it was going to be saved as it was intact and not stripped, and being in Columbia, there is a lot of support for radials. I suspect the airport probably inherited it for lack of storage fees. Sounds like they didn't even salvage the engines, what a waste, the entire air-frame could have probably been auctioned off for more than scrap aluminum pricing. :(

See link below:

17 September 2019 - Broken up for scrap between 07:00 and 12:00 LT with engines installed, using a mechanical shovel, on the apron abeam of runway 13R threshold at Bogota El Dorado, Colombia.
