Spitfire T.9 TE308 Flying Again - New Markings

Fri Aug 14, 2020 1:21 pm

The ex-Bill Greenwood Spitfire T.9 TE308 has been completed and flying again since last Friday at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar in the UK (first flight performed by Pete Kynsey).

The Flyaspitfire.com Facebook page has shared these photos and following information:

"We're thrilled to have approval to start passenger flights in our latest Two seat Spitfire TE308. In honour of the Australian pilots and servicemen who served in WWII we've chosen the distinctive colours of 457 'Grey Nurse' Sqn RAAF.
TE308 joins our other 2 seat Spitfires MJ627 , MJ772 and MT818 making Biggin Hill the destination of choice to enjoy a Spitfire flight.
Find out more about this new addition by visiting https://flyaspitfire.com/the-story-of-te308
If you're overseas and currently unable to visit us our 2021 calendar is open for bookings now."

She looks gorgeous! Bravo to the owners for such a neat choice - sure to be a hit on the UK airshow scene - and well done to the paint team for a very pretty job.

BHHH are a commercial ride-hauling opération and don’t really do airshows away from home base with their 2-seaters.

Anyone heard from Bill about his former mount? Hope he's happy to see it re-tailed and flying.

Was a two-seat, then it was a one seat and then back to a two-seat .

I wonder if someone at BHHH, like me 45 years ago made the french 1:72 Spitfire VIII in these same 457 Sqn, ZP-W marks flown by Sqn.Ldr Bruce Watson OC 457 Sqn, 1945....
Shouldn't it have a red spinner though  :?

Edit: Utterly stupid software on this board  is replacing the plastic kit maker name with the word french instead of F*r*o*g

Very nice to see this one back in the air again, and it's just stunning.

Maybe someone here knows, but has anyone ever taken a two-seat Spitfire and "properly" converted it back to a single-seater? Pretty major surgery to move the front cockpit back to it's original position as Supermarine moved it forward about a foot, but I imagine there's been one somewhere that was done - maybe after getting wrecked?

I think ML417 was converted to a 2 seater post war and was then restored back as a single seater for TFC.

Not F*r*o*g but I've got an unmade Novo reissue in a cupboard upstairs.

It flew with a red spinner when Bill Greenwood owned it... but that just confuses the issue

Beautiful and great to see the RAAF represented. Interestingly, it has no cannons fitted which our Mk VIII did have...
