As I mentioned earlier, these are screen shots saved from one of the videos in this post on the Fire Aviation website here:

I don’t actually see any fire here, so I assume that the area is being pretreated either for an approaching fire or to prepare for a burnout operation. There is already a considerable amount of retardant on the ground.

Does the 747 have a slipper tank or is the retardant stored internally?

The 747 has the most god awful mess of a plumbing nightmare for a tank system that was originally designed by Evergreen. It’s ridiculously complex compared to the external tank system on the DC-10 tankers.

According to the 10 Tanker website the DC-10 fleet consists of DC-10-30’s.
