This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I don't post much here, but we have a bit of mystery that needs solving.
We have an aircraft part - suspect its cold-war era - that has been pulled up from the English Channel.
It is corroded but under the marine growth we find it stamped "10AS/281".
We have several aircraft losses in the area the part came from. Can anyone throw any suggestion on the type or manufacturer?
Realise its not a lot to go on...but any and all thoughts welcome.

AS was usually an inspection stamp for the Airspeed Company, AS.10 was the company designation for the early Airspeed Oxfords. I'm not a part number guru, just reading between the lines, so don't take it as gospel.

10AS looks more like a Section Reference than an inspection stamp. Could still be an Oxford however, depending on what 10AS is in the AP.1086.

It might be helpful to show a couple of pictures of the entire part, to give it some scale and context.

View of the entire piece, with tape measure for scale.

Thanks ArchiveFan.
That's a tough one. Not much more than the numbers to go off of.
Someone will figure this out!

With the remnants of fabric bonded in place it looks like a rib from a control surface.
