Grumman and Northrop bits turn up

Recent arrivals in Wendover - not owned by Historic Wendover Airfield museum but stored in a unrestored WWII hangar on the field. The F-5 piece is literally just the tail section. The Grumman has wings as well - I am assuming an ex-air spray plane based on the colors.

Aerial Applicators Inc, Salt Lake City

Aerial Applicators of Salt Lake City appeared to have owned eight TBMs, of which six were numbered D15, D16, D17, D18, D19 and D20. Four of them eventually ended up with Hicks and Lawrence in Ontario.

[Bob Forbes] was in Salmon, ID in 1961 at the airport and there were 2 or 3 Aerial Applicator TBM’s flying out of there, sort of. They were by far the worse looking aircraft I ever saw. They did manage to keep at least one flying between break downs. One even aborted a take off AFTER barely getting airborne and getting it back on the runway and getting it stopped before he ran out of runway. – Posted to TBMs – Mil & Civ on 1 Dec 14.

Right you are - I must have posted before a sufficient amount of caffeine was in the blood stream!

Sadly, I seriously doubt much will happen to improve the TBM's status in the near future. It actually looks in better shape in those 2008 photos in Anoka - but hope springs eternal!

A friend of mine owned a C-1 Trader and he would load a few of us into the plane and get us out of New England after a long winter and bring us to Florida. Tom would let him store the plane at his museum in between the VAC airshow and Sun n Fun.
Got the nickel tour a few times, if I only knew then what I know now..Good times..

The tail is an AT-38B, former fighter lead-in trainer from Holloman.

Based on the holes in it, looks like it may have been an ABDR trainer or fire trainer.

Perhaps the T-38 ended up in Wendover via the DRMO office at Hill?

At Dyess there was a (not wtecked, but too far gone to restore) T-38...despite the fact there weren't any on base.

I have to go and check my old photos... I remember a yellow TBM hulk in amongst the piles of aluminium at Tom Reilly's Kissimmee place. Probably this one then.
