Mosquito project at TOM back in early 2000's

Sat Dec 30, 2023 12:08 am

I remember going to a Thunder Over Michigan show sometime between 2004-2010 or so that had pieces of a Mosquito fuselage on a trailer and a donation bucket (I think) to help fund its pending restoration. I know I took a few (film) pictures of it but they've long since been lost. Can anyone tell me which Mosquito that was?

thanks!

Dave

Probably the one from the Canadian Aviation Museum at Windsor. When they first acquired the proof-of-concept fuselage for the NZ builds, they likely trailered it to Michigan for the display. Slow progress continues to be made. The museum's web page on the aircraft is https://devweb.canadianaviationmuseum.c ... -mosquito/.

I remember this fuselage too! Glad to find where she is! I'll admit I forgot where this one ended up too.

That photo makes the Mosquito look very small.

Well, it wasn't wide enough for the crew to sit shoulder to shoulder.
They had to be staggered. Looking up into the access hatch looks very cramped.

I appreciate that, and I've seen 7 Mossies "in the flesh", but that photo makes the fuselage seem small.

We think of it as a bomber, but it was not much bigger than a P-38.
