They have landed sea planes in the desert, then jacked them up and installed the beaching gear and then took off again. but that was a Mariner, not something as large as a Mars.
As far as using the washes, they do not flow year around, and they are not wide or deep enough, nor straight enough. The closest body of water large enough to handle the Mars is Roosevelt Lake and it is several hundred miles away.
