Seriously, the plane in question is one very, very clean bird with all the usual VadeBonCoeur signature touches and detail (i.e. perfection limited only by the aircraft owner's budget). From what I saw of the plane a few months back, it's a judge's delight.

When Red Dog XI has it's coming out party, my vote would be to compliment the magazine report (Warbird Digest of course) with a two-page centerspread showing Red Dog XI, Daddy's Girl, Cripes A Mighty, and Lil' Maragret in a single powerhouse formation! 8)

Maj. Louis Norely is my cousin. The Red Dog XII airplane that was done by Dan Martin for Duane Doyle was done mostly on my behalf. It was (is) a great honor for me that this was done, especially given the fact that I rebuild Merlin engines and have worked on Mustangs for almost 20 years. I find it interesting I guess that another wants to "copy" an airplane that is already done. Nothing against it, just find it interesting. The family will be tickled to know there are 2 of them. Louis was a very good pilot, I'm sure he'll be happy to see another of his flying around. To answer the obvious question, Louis passed away in 1968 and is buried in the San Leandro area, which coincidentally is the same area that Duane Doyle lives.

The owner of 44-63865 and 44-74469 posted their intended use of the RED DOG XII scheme on the THE 4TH FIGHTER GROUP ASSOCIATION in 1999 and on MustangsMustangs in January 2000. Duane Doyle’s Red Dog XII was painted in May 2002. But no harm done, since Duane Doyle’s is based on the west coast and 44-74469 near the east coast. So we finished 44-74469 as RED DOG XI, an earlier Major Norley Mustang Red Dog with ETO bands, different serial number, different kill markings and different nose art, much that same way there are two Cripes-A-Mighty, etc. Best regards to all, Mike.

Wow I had no idea that you were related to Maj Norley!! What a small world we live in. Do you know if any photo's of Maj Norley's earlier "RED DOG" exist among the family? Some historians refer 44-72196 as "RED DOG XI" but we've never been able to find a photo showing the left side of the airplane only the right. So this airplane is just going to be called "RED DOG"

saw red dog in the hanger at oshkosh this morning. Looks great, cant wait to see it in the light without the canopy cover on
