This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I went to Fencecheck and read some of his postings, and realized that this guys likes to argue, just because he can.

Sadly, at Fencecheck he posted -supposedly- with his last name, and very closely matches that of a gentleman in the true sense of the world, that I have had the honor to meet.

I am hoping that they are not related, but everything else seems to point the other way....

You know if this guy came to Texas and went to a bar over in Ft. Worth and did this, well there be a line out the door with a sign above "In need of dental work" . Well done again Scott, this is not needed.

I read him here and I read him there; I guess I read it incorrectly when he referred to some people as "*sswipes"

He probably meant it as a term of endearment or as a true sign of comradeship.

He made it clear that he is not seeking friendships nor connections, all he wants is information.

Give him what he wants and no one gets hurt. : )

You know, you complain about thenetwork making odd comments and that you don't like them. Then you go do the same thing.

I believe everything must be justifiable before condeming someone. I don't like seeing people getting hurt and I have since e-mailed thenetwork and he has been nothing but kind to me. I am a message board moderator myself and if there was ever a instant where someone "questionably" started to sound off rude and then other posters came in doing the sam thing, then I would have no choice but to bann all of the parties at work for feeding on to the negativity, and not just the starter. I have made visits to other BBS's to observe the goings on and I have found that there ARE instantes that one poster will take offense to another poster just to start trouble when there was nothing rude or wroung in the first place. Then everyone jumps on the band wagon and most of the times they don't even know why they are jumpin the gun and shewing someone out. My conclusion with that is they like to start trouble. Thats my observation.

Nathan

That would be the fair way to handle this, but if Scott did that their wouldn't be a forum left. People were way too quick to jump on this guy for his review of the show, some of his points I thought were spot on and some I did not witness myself, but can't dismiss.

Like I posted in the other thread most of you all were in the photo pit so you don't know spit what happened along the fenceline.

To me it seems that as soon as someone has anything that is slightly negetive towards this show they are jumped on with a closed minds, seems to be a big who can kiss the YAM's A$$ contest.

Mike H was going to make a list of possible suggestions to YAm for upcoming shows? You should get intouch with Bob Swaddling and ask his point of view on the way the ramp was run. He was helping Eric Billing with the VWoC AC and noticed quite a few safety concerns that should be addressed before the next show robert.swaddling@sympatico.ca

Dave,

Just my 2 cents worth...most members here have no problem with another member giving his opinion or complaining. Where things went bad was the way this guy reacted to others who disagreed with him. Most people here can have a difference of opinion and still refrain from being rude or from slinging insults. Unfortunately this person chose the other path and ended up setting a record for being banned in the shortest time possible.

I had issue with him accusing YAM of blatantly trying to screw everyone out of their $ by misleading the public. It was not as much a review as an attack against the show and those who were responsible for putting it on.

I was asked by several members over the weekend what I though of everything. They want to know how the show can be improved and as I’ve seen over the past few years they are willing to make changes. I’ve wrote it before and I’ll write it again, its not what you write as much as how you write it, but in Networks case it was both what he wrote and how he wrote it.

If giving credit where is credit is due than my nose is brown I guess. I dropped a lot of money to attend and I can say it was well worth every penny.

so...do ya'll realize that there are more comments on this thread than on many others that are related to aviation? I thought we all came here for airplanes. of course, I just propogated this, but I haven't actually ready any of the postings. I just noticed 2 pages of comments related to suspensions. I'm gonna go back and read about airplanes. :?

To everyone,
We have quietly observed all your comments...the good, the bad and the ugly. We have appreciated everyone's reviews, suggestions and experiences. We looked at them all! (even the ones that may have been viewed by some as offensive, we found an opinion in there that can help us better the air show).
As a coordinator for Thunder Over Michigan I feel we would be remised if we did not consider everyone's views on the show as this is the type of discussion that makes our show better year after year.
To let everyone in on a little background, the air show committee met this past Saturday for a very in-depth air show debrief. Each department was represented and the meeting lasted nearly 5 hours! We spent time on every aspect of the show (positive or negative) and viewed it from the standpoint of the spectators, volunteers, participants, sponsors, coordinators and appropriate authorities.
We evaluated each department and their performance and made appropriate suggestions regarding how we can make it better in the future. ALL (and I honestly mean ALL) suggestions and comments were reviewed and there existed no real challenge we couldn't overcome.
I thank everyone for being so passionate about this show and the mission of the Yankee Air Museum. I encourage you to keep the suggestions coming as we do this show for you......the enthusiasts.
I know everyone will be happy with the changes that will be instituted in 2007 and we are committed to producing one of the best warbird gatherings in North America!
Thanks for all the support and see everyone back in 2007! :D

Bill you could try him at this e-mail ( work ) bob@actionhobbieskingsville.com, he is their every day of the week.

In short we talked about how he was not sure if he liked the idea of not having the AC roped off to keep kids from poking around the landing gear and he did find one young lad trying to poke his finger through the fabric of VWoC Hurricane  I know if they were my AC they would be roped off for sure or at least have 1 person per plane to watch over as security ( we don't need a AC to have a major problem because someone messed with it either intentionally or accidentally )

Also he mentioned that the AC should be chocked when starting up and he did not see any fire extinguishers present at start up.

One other thing he noticed was that the Spitfire had to taxi too far and should have been placed closer to the exit to prevent over heating ( something Mr. Greenwood probably could comment on being a owner of one, P51, Hurricane etc can taxi around all day as a Spit needs to get out and up ASAP )

Just a few points we talked about on the phone last week.

Cheers Dave C

Thanks Dave. It never hurts to have a fire extingisher on hand though I haven't seen it needed. Starting on chocks is sort of a military or jet method. It doesn't seem necessary for a Spit, etc. and most of all I'd rather not have anyone, especially one I don't know, have to go under a running prop to pull chocks. My rule is never go in front of the cannon on a Spit, make all access back by the wing edge if needed, engine running or not.Mike from the Russell Group said people were climbing on the Hurri, etc. Sun I asked Deb Stewart, she got the announcer to make a broadcast and it seemed to help. Many of the public in an urban area aren't pilots and just don't think. A polite request is enough for most people. I prefer not to rope off the planes unless it's a real problem. They do in England, etc. but it makes it too elitist, too removed from people, and we might miss talking a veteran not too mention ladies, kids. Perhaps ask each owner, or best of all have "plane protector" volunteers like at Oskosh. We want and need all the friends we can for gen. av. and Warbirds. What do others think?

Wed Aug 23, 2006 6:22 pm

Mr. Greenwood, I believe you summed it up by saying (paraphrasing) that people just don't think. In my time in the Warbird industry, I've seen parents stand idly by while their children use pitot tubes for pull-ups, bash matchbox cars into new paint jobs, run around on the wing, and the like. Come to think of it, I've seen many an adult do some similarly stupid things.

I agree 100% though, that the planes need to be kept accessible to the public! How else can we all pass along our love of these tough old birds or allow vets to relive their experiences with them if we rope them off and say "Don't Touch!" -- ??? People need to touch them, to feel them, to be able to look (or sit!) in them! I found that most people are pretty polite about it, and love to engage in coversation about the aircraft. It's the "non-thinkers" who have always worried me, though....Perhaps a "plane protector" is the way to go!
