Hi All, I wanted to share something....

On Saturday 9 Sept 2006 @ 12:00hrs I Soloed! :D

We flew over to the Leesburg airport (LEE) Florida to do some touch-n-go’s, and as I was turning base to final to land the plane on our second TnG we saw the Space Shuttle Atlantis take off. What a view!

After about 30 minutes, 2 more TnG’s and 1 full stop for what I thought was a soda break, my instructor instead said taxi back to runway 3 and drop him off on the side, cause it's "time for you to go solo". We had done the paperwork before the flight, but I thought I was to solo, Sunday. Why wait? Was his response.

So I taxied Skyhawk (C-172) N886AV up to and held short of runway 3, announced my intentions, waited for 3 planes to land, then taxied onto the active, applied full throttle and right rudder, and A-WAAAYYY I went…Performed the customary three take-offs & landings for my first solo, of which I’m proud to report went smoothly. (The only known item I forgot to exectue was pulling the carb heat on twice...)

I was sweating so much my eyes were stinging. Naturally it was because of the Bright Cloudless Sunny 95-degree day outside = A Very HOT 100+ degrees inside the plane.

Shirttail was removed upon arrival back at (SFB) Orlando-Sanford Airport.

It's been a long, hard journery thus far, and yet more of it to come, but well worth it. I'm learning a lot about myself.

Thanks!

David, I just now saw this and wanted to add my congrats. You will never forget your 1st solo. Keep it going and you will have your pvt. After I took my check ride, I told everyone that the party was at "Hooter's". Didn't know I had that many friends  as it was $300.00+ pitchers of beer later...

Good Luck,

Lynn

David, way to go. You may read on this site about the high performance planes some of us get to fly and it's true, but the initial learning from start to private is also some of the most fun. Now it becomes so much a case of weather and judgement as much as flying skill. Try to be really accurate in your flying for when you move up to something more critical. Don't let anything stop you getting that license, but you are already a pilot. No joke, one nice thing about learning in a 172, is anything you move up to is exciting.

Congratulations! It's very exciting, isn't it? I soloed back in May, SO MUCH FUN! :) Yay!

David, I wondered if you had flown since your solo and what you are working on now?

Tim, Scott, Bear, Tom, Oscar, Everyone Thank you very much!

Lynn - That was some expensive celebration!

Bill - My feet are firmly planted in a C-172 for now. It will a LONG time before I move up to a HP airplane. The school does have a C-172 with a 180hp and it scares the bejesus out of me when applying full throttle. I've not flown since soloing... We've been working on (and I'm struggling through) Ground work. Ugh, too much to remember and learn. The Radio {Extreme case of Mike Fright}, Airspace, and the dreaded E-6B. :x

Stephanie - Thanks and Congratulations to you as well! :D

Ollie - Thanks!

The folks here are the Best! :D
