I've found that planes on display at AF bases aren't always displayed in the most accurate manner. Sometimes decisions on paint are left to people who have good intensions, but aren't really knowledgeable about the historical accuracy of the particular aircraft they are in charge of. Just my opinion....

I've seen worse, much worse. At least it's clean and the area is well landscaped...

Well the Navy painted a couple white for their tests.

"The white B-29 was used for underground explosion testing. 50000 pounds of TNT was detonated underground about 100 yards from the aircraft"

She looks well looked after and the landscaping is a nice touch. SHe does look a little sad though minus side blisters and turretts. Are there no engines fitted also?

Not the most accurate finishing, to be sure, but certainly one of the nicer displays that I've seen. The display area is quite attractive and looks to be well cared for.

She looks clean and FAST!...Reno anyone! :P

If they gotta keep them outside then maybe a thick coat of paint might be best.

Maybe it went something like this... The General is coming for a visit and the B-29 on display needs a paint job. "You and You, go down to base supply and get some paint for that plane asap!" "Ok Sarge!" Two hours later Airman high-speed and Airman speed-handle return with the paint. "Sarge all they had was white!?!" "Good enough, now get it done!"

Just my thought (I've seen it happen)...

Thanks for the pictures. My one trip near Tinker several years ago was last minute and did not give me enough notice to get permission to shoot that B29.

Regardless of how that paint job is/is not authentic, at least it is another B29 being cared for. Yes, authentic woulr be better, displayed undercover & away from tornados would be even better.

What bothers me is not so much the white paint but the inaccurately constructed national insignia. The warbird community has (mostly) learned to get the stars 'n bars right over the years; but you would think the USAF would make an effort...
