I narrowed it down to the P-51 and the Spitfire and sided with the P-51 for it's beautiful lines, the great sound of the Merlin, it's rich history, and the whole mystique that surrounds it. In the jet realm, it'd be the F-4 Phantom--talk about an airplane with mojo! Hell, all this applies to the Spit too...it's like narrowing it down between the trophy blonde or brunette and having to pick one...oh to be the Hef of warbirds and have one of each!

It was an ex-pat Italian called Luigi Pellarini, his first effort was the Waitomo Air Truck made out of surplus RNZAF harvard parts here in NZ. Does being made out of warbird parts qualify it as a warbird?

I'm tellin' y'all...I'm gonna get me one of those AirTruks someday. I'd have the coolest ugly airplane around............or is that the ugliest cool airplane? Either way, I'm sure it would be a reeeeeaaal chick magnet. My fiance just gives the ol' eye roll when I talk about getting one. I wonder what's wrong with her?

I can relate to at least a few of those items on that link.

By the way Hairy, I was sure tryin' hard to get that AirTruk that's sitting there at the Ardmore airport in Auckland when I was there last year. That guy seemed to think it was actually worth something though. Heck, he thought it was worth ALOT.

Yep... I'll second that on the F2G... I love corsairs in the first place, but there is something about the Super Corsair that is so majestic

And I may be a bit bias towards the F-4, but what can I say?

F-4 does have a certain charisma.

Of course when you are standing about 20 ft from the tail when just one J-79 goes into burner you gotta believe it also has CAJONES !

I'm also reminded of the comment made by the AF General the first time he saw it. When asked what he thought of the Navy's newest interceptor, he commented, " looks like someone stepped on its nose and kicked it in the a$$ !". The charisma probably took a little longer to become apparent.

Oh cut it out. In 1940 it probably impressed the public quite a bit; you could imagine Smilin' Jack knocking down dozens of the bad guys with it... of course the reality was a bit different...

My pick is a RU-8D/U-21.......Beechcraft Model 50 Twin Bonanza

Yep its a warbird.........Served in Vietnam with the 146 Avn Co. in Long Than, 138th Avn Co. in Phu Bai, The 156th Avn Co in Can Tho and the 1st Avn Co. in Cam Rahn Bay. Used for maping troop movements for target missions.

The thing looks like a beast, sounds like a beast and just might act like one. Guess thats why the call it "The Bone"
