Is there any more news on the possible sale of 'Glacier Girl' as reported elsewhere?

It's interesting to see that, although the aircraft was supposed to be grounded for the season, the website for Nellis Airshow next weekend has just announced 'Glacier Girl' as a participant, complete with a link to the 'Lost Squadron' website.

http://aviationnation.org/06/civilian/

The 'Lost Squadron' site confirms that the aircraft was due to leave Middlesboro for Nellis yesterday.

I'm curious to know as well.

As of last week GG was still in Middlesboro, KY with no mention of a sale pending. There was talk of the loss of a sponsor though. For now I have to believe that this is internet rumor started because of Roy Schoffner's passing.

It would surprise me if she was sold. From my understanding the town of Middlesboro significantly financed the construction of the new facility that GG now resides in.

Provenance Fighter Sales is the proud new owner of the Glacier Girl P-38. Steven Hinton flew her into North Las Vegas and she'll probably be at the Nellis Airshow.

Slllllllllaaaaaaapp!!! Image

I didn't see that one coming! That's definitely the last plane I thought I'd see swapping hands on a whim. I suppose as long as the new owner has as much sense as they do money, I won't be one to criticize. I would hope that the museum and all of its memorabilia, parts, etc were included in the purchase and not just the plane itself. Without the story, the artifacts, and the "living museum", the overall value of the project is going to be degraded somewhat IMO.

Paul Allen - combat history or not, this one's a shoe-in for the FHC! ;)

I'm so glad I was able to make to the Museum this past summer to see GG and all the good stuff on display there with it. And Meet Bob C. and Jeffery (I think that was the other person there). They gave me a great tour and enjoyed my time taking with them and watching the Tiger Moth head north to a new home also.

Look forward to seeing where GG ends up; FHC was one of my first thoughts when I heard about the sale. I guess time will tell.

Tim

Haven't FHC got a multi-kill combat veteran P-38 on rebuild IIRC?

Then why hasn't Glacier Girl been listed on their page?

I checked their page on Nov 1st when I first heard this rumor and nothing was listed on their page. So unless it had been sold before the beginning of the month or they just haven't updated their page......just seems weird that's all.

Although there is a mention in the latest news section of 'a couple of other aircraft' being due to be ferried to their new hangar at French Valley Airport.

I've read somewhere that Mr. Raftis likes to keep the cream of the crop for himself, hence the reason that the ex-Gary Kohs FG-1D hasn't ever shown up on the website. Maybe Glacier Girl falls under this category. Heck, maybe she'll even live at Middlesboro still.

Not if Hinton flew it to Vegas. I wonder what the '38 went for? :Hangman:

On the contrary, with the unfortunate passing of the owner its hardly unexpected that the aircraft has been sold. As the new owner is a collector & dealer we may see a further sale of GG in the not too distant future. I agree with your points re the museum and artefacts.
