Hey Warbirdnerd,

When were you a volunteer out at Planes of Fame East ? I was with them some time back myself, and actually was brought in to repair the damage to the Wildcat's wing after it nailed a Duck or Goose, when it was over at St. Paul Downtown's airshow. The wing leading edge was mangled and it needed to be rebuilt after that incident. Kermit LeQuay was was the chief pilot at the time, and I recall doing quite abit of thw work to get the planes annual inspections done prior to the airshow season. And the other question is, was Mac the pilot you flew with when you were riding in the Corsair ?

Just curious,

Paul

I started at POFE in 1987. As a 15year old I started helping where ever I could. I started out at the ticket desk, gift shop and helped clean a lot of oil of the very active fleet. During the Memorial Day Weekend shows I was on the refueling crew and helped on the flightline..
I was fortunate to get rides in the Corsair, P-40, and several rides in the B-25 Mitch the Witch along with getting to meet lots of wonderful people.
Many of that old gang are still active here in the area.
The Pilot for my ride was Blake Middleton pictured in Mint's Corsair thread.
I last saw Mac a couple of years ago.

First shot: Jason Griffon (fellow WIXer) flying his T-6 at Sun-N-Fun.

Second is Dan McCue piloting the CF F4U-5NL over Geneseo '05. Awesome flying Dan! :D

The last one is President of Warbirds of America: Rick Sigfried (sp.?) in his T-6. Tim Savage (another WIXer) is flying the '6 with the red cowl.

How 'bout an image I wish I could have taken? 8)

Recently finished the small oil study ... next up is the detailed outline of the plane, where I'll slide the canopy back so we can see the driver (LCDR Tommy Blackburn, CO of VF-17). After the outline is complete, I'll be doing a 1/2 scale pencil study, followed by a 1/2 scale oil study. The final canvas will follow that. Hopefully by then I'll know just what the hey-all I'm doing!

Got some annoying reflections on the canvas on this hand-held snapshot  , but I'll scan it in "proper-like" when the paint dries a bit. :D
