I just finished taking the Virginia section of the Locator as far as I can on my own. You check check it out at...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.html#USA_VA

If you have anything you can add, correct, or improve I would like to hear from you. A reply here is great. PMs work as well. The new submissoin form appears to be working well also...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/LocatorForm.html

I have a number of questions which I will list below.

I look forward to any comments you may have. Thanks in advance.

Mike

Questions...

#1: Is there a F-14 displayed in Bellwood?

#2: Is there a H-52 at the Virginia War Museum in Newport News?

#3: Is there an A-4 at the National Maritime Center in Norfolk?

#4: Apparently there is a place called "Defense General Supply Center" in Richmond has a F-84. Where exactly is it?

#5: Is there a F-4 at Quantico MCAS?

#6: Is the National Museum of the Marine Corps a "repackaged" Marine Corp Air-Ground Museum?

#7: Is there a F-84 at Camp Pendleton? If so where is Camp Pendleton, not to mention the F-84???

#8: Are there any aircraft displayed at NASA Wallops Field?

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

If it's the same Camp Pendleton that I'm familiar with, it is in Califiornia.

#6 The new Marine Museum replaces the old Marine Air Ground Museum
that closed down several years ago. It was located well within the active area of the base. The new museum is located on the edge of the base, within view of I-95. The old MAG Museum was a collection of Quonsent Huts if I remember correctly.

I hope this helps.

While Googling I saw references for a Camp Pendleton in both CA and VA. Go figure!

I just needed that sanity check. I'll update the Locator tomorrow.

#3 Yes there is an A-4 at Nauticus in downtown Norfolk next to the Wisconsin. It is in Blue angels colors and up on stilts. Someday I will try and get some pictures of it.

#7 Camp Pendleton is in Virginia Beach, I do not remember seeing an F-84 there, but I will ask around and see what I can find out.

I also saw that you had listed a lot of aircraft at Chesapeake, actually the only things there are our C-60 plus a stearman. Our US-2B is now kept at the Franklin, VA airport along with our OY-1. Also at Franklin is one of our Squadron Members T-6G, a B-25, PT-23, several Yaks and then there is the Val that has its winter maintenance done there.

Hey Mike,
Dont forget VA Beach, Pungo International Airport.

The new home of the Fighter Factory

The real name:
Virginia Beach Airport (VA42)
1341 Princess Anne Road
Virginia Beach, Virginia 23457

What a neat place in an obscure location.

Actually,
Those old Quonset huts were made of corrugated building material, but not rounded Quonset huts. They were regular shaped buldings with peaked roofs that were in actuality aviation artifacts in and of themselves.

They were the actual hangers the Marine Corps used during the late 1920's sint in Nicaragua. They were "portable" and that's why they survived. The Marines brought them back to the US and set them up at Quantico. I hope that some of them can be saved and used in the new museum or possible offered to other interested museums.
As drafty and "ugly" as they are, those 3-4 hangers are rare survivors from that period of avaition.

You are referring to the entry I have as the "The National Maritime Center" correct?

So there is a Camp Pendleton in VA!!! I guess I am not going crazy. :D Thanks for looking into it.

Check. I will add a second entry for you squadron at Franklin and sort out the two. The update should be there by later today.

Does the new location completely replace the old location?

I will add this to my notes. One of the few rules for the Locator, is that a listed site must have at least one airframe there.

Thanks everyone!

The new location does not replace the old one. The original facilities at Suffolk Executive Airport will continue to be used as the maintenance/engineering base for the collection. The new facility at Pungo is essentially a place to operate and store the airworthy aircraft.
