Another P-51 that time forgot: P-51K NT-10 44-12116

There is a P-51K NT-10 44-12116 at the Crawford Museum in Cleveland. Ohio that is bone stock and original. She is missing a few parts that were pulled out so she could race at Cleveland in 1946 but that is about it.

I think that this museum has a static display F2G comming from ND.
I seem to remember they had parts from one of the corsairs.

They have the engine off one of the Super Corsair racers--it is just sitting in the basement, in a back corner!

That F2G Super Corsair is coming form Walter Soplata's collection. It is in the restoration shop right now, and is the actual one that Cook Cleyland raced.

They have the engine off one of the Super Corsair racers--it is just sitting in the basement, in a back corner!
The engine currently at the museum actually belonged to XF2G-1 BuNo.14693 (Race number "94"). It's all that was considered salvagable from the plane after the Cleveland-Hopkins Fire Department used the airframe for fire practice.

The F2G aquired by Crawford is actually the blue #74 flown primarily by Dick Becker. The Cleveland fire dept. supposedly buried the remains of #94 somewhere on Hopkins property. It will be a real moment to someday see #57 and #74 sitting side by side.

I've taken my pail and shovel to Hopkins, but every time I start digging for #94 security chases me off.
Anyone have an update on the status of #74? Last I heard work had stopped. I've also heard that Crawford sold their DH-4, so maybe some of the money from that project can go to finishing #74.

Cook Cleland's blue-and-white F2G #74 that is now on hold at the Odegaard shops in ND was ultimately Dick Becker's mount but was flown by Cleland in the 1947 Cleveland NAR, taking victory in the Thompson Trophy race. Two years later Cleland won the Thompson again, as has been mentioned, in the team's white F2G #94. Their red F2G #57 won the '49 Tinnerman, flown by Ben McKillen; Bob Odegaard took that one back to competition this September at Reno. Here's to the sight on the ramp at Kindred ND someday of #57 and #74 parked side by side and looking like new...and to somebody having a successful go with a shovel at Hopkins Airport...
