Tillamook collection for sale?

Wed Dec 13, 2006 8:38 pm

Latest Classic Wings mentioned possible sale. If so, I hope someone or a museum buys and puts that Martin AM-1 Mauler back in the air. I was thinking that at one time Tillamook was thinking about making it airworthy. Mr. Cook, could you give some insight as to what is going on with the aircraft in the collection?

There is no airplane that I would rather have than a Mauler.

I hope someone puts one back in the air. I have given serious consideration to taking on a project, but realistically I know I don't have the patience to complete a project like that.

I always thought it would be cool to have both the AD5 and the Mauler to really go through some gas. What could be better than showing up to an airshow in a HUGE formation of only two aircraft.

Are you talking about the entire collection, or just some extra stuff. According to there web site they just got an Oscar that is airworthy, which would seem strange if they are about to liquidate.

Rhetorical question, I know, but what would be better: those two plus a Guardian. It's cool to be able to go to Pensacola and see the AD, AF, AM trio, but a formation of the three would not soon be forgotten. And it is just on the edge of being possible some day...

Hey what ever happened to the AF Guardian that Aero Union restored years ago? I know it was airworthy. Also if you want some good AF Guardian stories, trrack down Bill Waldman, He drives a P-3 for Aero Union, he use to fly them when they were tanked for fire fighting.
Scott...

Big planes!

Eric, you are becoming unbalanced. I hope Santa brings you a nice Mooney Mite for Christmas to restore some sense of proportion. Maybe if you've been real good a Foilland Gnat also.

Now that is funny!

Eric...why not sponsor the CAF's Mauler and put that back together?

I might be in the dark about it, but is something happening with the Tillamook museum? That's about 15 minutes from my moms place in Rockaway Beach, OR. I love that museum. Just curious what's going on.

So are we! There is a unique Spitfire T.8 in that collection. Not sure that it has flown in a number of years though.

Bill,

Somehow I think that if I was talking about restoring the other Firefly, you would have thought that to be "a fine idea, mate".

I might get a half dozen mooney mites and put them on the wing racks like the B52 X project aircraft. I could drop them at airshows for party favors.

As for the CAF Mauler, I haven't by any means forgotten about it. I just want to wait until Gary gets done with these "small" projects he keeps fiddling around with. :D :D

Eric, the medical signs of advanced dementia are an enhanced sense of humour. That was a good one about the Mite's as wing ornaments. Maybe not grand champion quip, but on the podium. That Mauler actually is kind of interesting looking. I've seen the Guardian at Leeward's, not too gorgeous. What happened at your base about the cops chasing the J3 on the runway?FLY SAFE

You're so right... although, Bumper Cars in Rockaway, really? Where? The crabbing is pretty good though. Did some deep sea fishing out that way last year, good times!

Ah c'mon Bill Guardians are beautiful---in an opium kind of way. I'd sure like to get ours back in the air if I could talk Aero Union out of a few parts.
Jim Babcock at AU has helped me out in the past with a flap swap but they are selling the rest of the parts with another airframe for somewhere in the $200K range. BTW, Gary, I have a Mauler canopy hangaing from my ceiling that I bought on Barnstormers a few years back. If you guys get that close on the Mauler, Give me a call.
