This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

As a longtime lurker here who has just recently begun to post, I am curious as I read these threads and responses as to who does what and how much.

Or something like that...

At any rate, Hi everyone...I'm Greg. And I'm a Warbird Junkie. My closest actual tangible connection to warbirds is that I shot a story for Ohio Magazine in 2002 in airshows in Ohio, through which I was able to enjoy numerous warbird flights as well as other fantastic aviation experiences. I am a professional photographer, and images from that year (as well as related images shot since) can be seen here.

PS...feel free to let the rookies like myself know what you do.

welcome fotobass!! look forward to interacting with you. i voted junkie, but i get close to the warbirds, as a collector / dealer of antique aviation memorabilia, freelance magazine author with 4 aviation history articles to my credit, i speak to aviation groups on the topic, appraise items, & consultation. i've been up in a b-25, a pt -17, a cessna o-2, i've been wreck chasing. ........ it's my passion, & i'd like to pursue it all full time when after my family business dissolves. i currently can't make a living at it all, with my family biz obligations, but 1 day i'm gonna give it a real try.

Actually I find the poll very interesting, but you should probably add a category for mechanic/restoration personel. I think you will find many here. And you will also find that many people fit in multiple categories.

Trained as an A&P mechanic and worked for a warbird restoration facility at one time. Volunteer at an annual warbird show in the VIP tent. Used to own and fly a Stearman, now I am restoring a T-6. Ridden in a bunch of warbirds over the years and got to fly a dual control P-40 from the back seat once, takeoff through landing approach.

Hmmmm, does that mean there's a Skyraider checkout in my future?

I've just been fortunate that other people trust me with their airplanes. I've still got a lot of learnin' to do about all of these airplanes though.

My name's Dave and I love Warbirds, especially B-17s.
I'm also afraid to fly; or is it crash? Hmmmm.
I've flown exactly once in my life. Does this disqualify me??
If anybody in my area had any Warbirds, I'd be happy to volunteer my humble grunt-work services. :D

I don't appear to be able to add anything to the poll...rats!

Well, if you are a mechanic/restorer...let us know what you chose, I guess.

Wed Dec 20, 2006 7:51 am

I actually chose this one:
I'm directly with warbirds on the ground as a volunteer.

The way I see it, even though I get paid a salary, any time I spend over the standard 40 hours a week is volunteered. :?

So I guess that puts me in that category.

Directly involved on the ground as a volunteer...

....and able to screw things up from 180 miles away. I may be the only telecommunting warbird volunteer in the business.

Probably because I'm so insanely jealous of such a position that I'm incapable of acknowledging their existence.

Mebbe I need to start this poll over...
