Thank you, Jack! Merry Christmas! Would you mind if I print out a copy of "Short Fuse Sallee" for a co-worker who bears "Sallee" as a last name? And oddly enough, she also bears the short fuse!

Knock yourself out!
Dick Turner BTW was a awesome guy. With a devilish sense of humor!
If you get the chance read his book "Big Friend-Little Friend".

Thanks! I'll have to look for the book --

Again, Happy Hols!

Jack,

On the VF-21 F4F, do you know if the "whatever color it is" surround to the star was standard, or is it a squadron applied marking?

It looks to be on both wings and on fuselage, and seems to have been painted over the fuselage serial number.

Just curious.

On that last photo, did the censor scratch out the gun ports or what?

That's cased by the repainting to the star to a smaller version. So, I'd suppose a different shade of blue.

Yes, doesn't that suck!!
Jim Cannon BTW is very ill with cancer and won't be with us much longer :( .
He is a really fine fellow!

Kinda liked the photo of "Short-Fuse Sallee". I bought some decals recently of that a/c 44-13561 with the nose-art and stars. However the name to be put on the canopy is Glen Eagleston, not R. E. Turner. Did Eagleston fly this a/c at all, or has the company made a mistake? Even the placement guide that accompanies the sheet says Turner is the pilot!

Greetings!

I'm digging thru and enjoying the older threads. Any chance the F4F has the yellow surround painted out? Wasn't there a period where there was a yellow circle around the star & circle - Operation Torch?!

Just a thought... Mark

Hope, just a repainting of the insignia.
VF-21 was never in the Atlantic.

Great character, Jack. Tommy Moland looks like he is about to leave for the club and a cup of Pimms. Cannon looks lile Eroll Flynn about to make a fighter pilot movie.

Tommy Molland was killed during the Korean War.
Jim Cannon, a good friend, is dying of cancer has I write this.
Losing friends sucks
