This is a great resource list many w/ serial #'s. check www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/shared/media/ ... 22-016.pdf The list also contains planes in storage but several of them are actually in restoration ie: the Memphis Belle, the Mig 25 and the Mig 29.

Is the MiG-25 actually in restoration? Or is it still just sitting in front of the restoration hanger.

The Foxbat is in the restoration hanager. We were just down at the Air Force Museum in November, and took the tour. It's one of the Iraqi birds they found buried in the sand. Unfortunately, they can't do much with it, as the wings were apparently nowhere to be found...

Here's the MiG-29, being prepped for painting. It's an ex-Moldovan AF machine..apparently, when they disbanded thier air force the U.S. bought the whole thing, to keep the planes out of less than freindly hands.

Cheers!

That's an excellent list. Thanks for the link,

Well, since they just had the rear motor mounts cut on the F-105 we were working on to insure that it was worthless to our needs, I'm sure that a request for a Mig of any kind would just be laughed at.

A Mig 25 doesn't really fit the rest of the collection anyway.

I've also posted this in the 'WIX Gatherings' section, but how about a forum meeting there the Monday after the Mustang Gathering in September? According to Multimap, it's only 77 miles away by road!

Steve Nelson- Do you have any more recent pics of the restoration shop? It would be great to see anything you have!

It will probably take over an hour, perhaps upwards of an 1.5-2 hours. There has been a lot of construction between Columbus and Dayton so it all depends on how fast you want to drive and if you think you'll get caught or not! :D

Here are some more..I shot tons of pics (the blessing and curse of digitgal cameras) but I'll have to shrink them down and upload them to PhotoBucket. I'm a WWII guy, so my main interest was the Belle. They had a few peices of the XC-99 stashed here and there..I understand its structure is in decent shape, but the magnesium skin is flaking off like paint on an old house.

Cheers!

Steve

It wasn't a "fiasco". It was a deliberate case of vandalism caused by the very entity entrusted with the care of historic aircraft.

The same people who apparently plan on taking a well cared for A-12 and sticking it on a pole so that it can waste away unattended.

That X-32 is sure butt ugly. I think it's like the saying about a helicopter, it doesn't fly, it's so ugly the earth repels it !
