I just placed a phone order for THE DEFENDER video in Vhs, not available on DVD. The U S phone is 1-800 542-2164, in Canada 1-800 267-7710. It's $30 plus postage and they are out of stock, but will make more. The only thing on WIX that everyone seems to agree on is that this is funny. I asked my A&P who was in Canada, Windsor before coming to US. He has not met Bob D, but has seen the video and said it was "hilarious"

Bill - if you aren't rolling on the floor after watching The Defender, I'll buy next time I see you.

 It seems that every 10 or so years there is a run on these videos. We heard about it in 95 and got a copy of a copy etc etc and just laughed our collective arses off and now it seems to have hit again.I hope that all enjoy.

I wonder if Bob makes any royalties off the sales of the movie? You might want to try your local library, I found a copy at ours. Wonder if there's gonna be a sequel!

Talking to my cousin who lives in Winnipeg, he was telling me about his friends father who had all kinds of old airplane parts, turns out its one of Bobs kids. Maybe its time for a road trip to Manitoba.

Hi Bill,

the NFB had the premiere of the film at CWH many moons ago. I was working at the museum at the time and Diemert and his assistant, we could never remember his name so we called him Kato, were there. If you think the movie is hilarious, you ain't seen nothing like the live show! The stories.......ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the endless stories. I'm sure you can still hear the echos of our laughter in the old hangars. Enjoy the film. I look forward to your review.

Glenn Goldman

if i remember correctly the film came out in 1986.

Glenn, do tell! We'd love to hear some of the stories. Scott, this sounds like a good topic for a WIXcast. :D

And as a funny side note, we too called his assistant Kato (real name, Chris Ball). Did he bring "The Wedge" to the premiere?

We always refer to him as "Egor".

I'm curious about the CAF interpretation of how this all went down. Was the result expected, but acceptable as the only game in town at the time? Had Diemert's reputation not preceded him? How late was the plane in delivery? Had nobody seen what Diemert was up to all that time? In a way the video makes the CAF at the time seem to be a bunch of country bumpkins that were horswaggled by the nutty professor.
