A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Just a quickie update (with no pictures) to let everyone know that we are still working on the Liberator project.
Recently, The Bosworth Company (local contractor), let us borrow a heated pressure washer so that I could wash off some of the exhaust and oil stains from the paint of Ol' 927 to help with preparation for painting. I started that process this morning and it went well. It's quite time consuming though, as I had to stop every now and then to suck up the water on the floor with the floor machine before it became "Lake Liberator" in here.
I've got the left wing done, but had to stop for now due to us having to move airplanes around for some event in the hangar this weekend. These events are good money for the CAF, but are progress killers for me. I basically have to stop all work when the events are going on, not to mention the down time for setting everything up. But it's just how it goes and we'll just work with everyone to make the most headway we can.
Gary
Oh, and our floorboard material just showed up as I was typing this.

Sorry about the down time Gary, but remember, these down times are a chance to share with others the history of the airplanes, and hopefully peak their interest in something that runs round (no offense to the pointy guys, but rounds are just sexier). These people, who come through the hangar, will be the future of our passion. Take the chance to teach some youngen's

Hey Gary... We know you're getting ready for a road trip down to Brownsville, but how about a shot a two of your new flooring.... you know, just a bit of a tease to get us ready for Winter Conference..... Alan
Oh, and from a few original pics that I have seen, you might save the leftovers for the B-23, I think she also had corrugated flooring in a few areas

By request, here is a picture of the flooring that just arrived. As mentioned before, the corrugations are actually a bit smaller than the Consolidated floors, but it was simply all I could find in the time frame I have. These skins are identical to what is used on the Ford TriMotor. Beside the skins is the pressure washer that Bosworth is letting us borrow to wash this nasty pig down with..........
This picture will give you an idea of what has the work pretty much to a stand still in the hangar right now (yes, there is a B-24 back there somewhere). Yep, it's like a circus around here. It won't be long before the moon jump thingys, the basketball hoops, and the obstacle courses will all be inflated and people from all over the Midland area will be coming here to have fun. Can you imagine that? Someone having non aviation related fun around all of these airplanes? Proposterous!
And no, the little punk on the left side of this picture isn't flipping me off, although it took some zooming in of the picture for me to figure that out........

So in the midst of all this, how are you expected to work????
Sorry, sometimes I forget what soul-selling measures have to be taken in the name of funding........

Just think of all those people lining up for the moonwalk that haven't seen a B24 before, let alone one in a whole bunch of pieces.

Just like a miner 49'er, you have got to sift through the whole pan to find the nuggets you want to keep! With people, its just hard to know which nugget is gonna be a keeper!!!! Work your magic bro', Alan.
