HARRIER WARBIRD

Thu Feb 01, 2007 12:50 pm

I understnad that there is a Sea Harrier in the USA that is bound for the Air Show World. Are there any photos of the craft? I heard rumours it was at Cherry Point and that the Former USMC pilot that bought it was being sponsored by the USMC? A civilian Harrier on the Show circut would be amazing!

I guess I got burnt out on Harrier demos at Air Shows after seeing the AV-8A and AV-8B so many times over the last 35 years from 1971/72 to present. It is an interesting airplane, but not too exciting to me after that many air shows.

I think after the AV-8B is retired from Marine Corps service and replaced by the Marine version of the F-35 with VTOL capability, then a flying Harrier could become a rare comodity and a "warbird" version may become an interesting air show attraction. This is just MHO. I have no problem with anyone who is excited by the Harrier and wants to see it.

I will admit that the British "Sea Harrier" is a little different than either the Marine AV-8A or AV-8B, so it may be a somewhat interesting jet warbird to see at a show.

I think that prior to any display they should be required to hand out ear plugs to the crowd.

They brought six of them to the small Watsonville. CA Air Show back in 2003, and that's exactly what they did. They handed out ear plugs, and flew four of them for the show...... :D
