Howdy y'all:

Just a quick note on safety etc: Please know that I have been around machinery my whole life. I have every piece of digit I was born with, and fully intend to keep them til I die. I do and did wear a safety shield when working with power tools, as well as gloves etc. Gary had at least 8 pairs of safety glasses around that I saw, not to mention the shields.

A number of those pics I posted earlier were *slightly* staged, as in the power tools weren't turned on, but simply used as props to describe the type of work being done. Having said that, I did and do have a responsibility to promote safety in the volunteer workplace, so I will ensure that equipment will be worn even for the semi-staged pics that I take in future.

Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa... :(

Good point too about tucking the braids (or ponytail in my case) into a t-shirt. Momma nature's taking my hair quick enough as it is, I probly don't need to hasten the process!

Huh? Say again?

Please to note the pic Gary took of Ole holding the bucking bar a page or two back. Ole is wearing the very latest in hearing protectors.. :)

While you're at it Gary you might want to rig some hearing protection for your anti-rattlesnake security guards. I think you mentioned they get pretty spooked with all that banging, hammering, and riveting going on.

Gary,
Sorry for taking so long to get back to ya. Just wanted to thank you for coming to our squadron(DesertSquadron) meeting this month and updating us on the 24. Keep up the good work and hopefully I can get out there some Sat or Sunday to help out.
Keep em Flying Bro.

Just a quickie update today, as I'm still trying to catch up from being away this past weekend. Things are moving along well, although the stress levels are extremely high (I tend to get stressed pretty easily in this type of environment).

Daniel was kind enough to take a few vacation days from his work and come in to help. He finished riveting in the doubler he fabricated for the entry door hinge points. It's all kind of beefy now........

While making flush patches for the old transport windows last week, we uncovered some corrosion between the skins that just had to be addressed. So rather than just try to make a scab patch, I just had Andy remove the bad section and we'll just make a new piece of skin to replace it. It really won't take much longer than it would've taken to fabricate the flush patch for the old window anyway.......

I've got to get some paint on the belly of the airplane ASAP, so today we just focused on getting it ready. Andy and Daniel worked together to shoot the tailgunner's tailcone on the airplane........

Boy, this would make a great "name the photo caption" contest entry. .....

Andy & Daniel also shot on some little cover plates for where the old pitot tubes went, and the other volunteers spent time working on wiping the undersides of the airplane down in preparation for paint. I made myself useful for a change and jacked the airplane up and went ahead and did the gear retraction tests. All went well.......

So there you have it. One really short update. I hope to be able to get y'all something more substantial later.

I don't care how many times you show it, I am truly amazed at the "new" tail gun position you and your team have fabricated & installed.

Many thanks again for showing us the entire process.

Careful now, or you're gonna give someone with "deep pockets" an idea for an "aerial hot tub...with a view!"

"Uhhhh...does the tail gun point this way?"

Gary: For future refrence,, They say the black sharpies have carbon in them now and are not preferred because they can start corrosion.. Blue they tell me is the preffered color as there isn't any carbon present. Chuck
