We are looking for a co-pilot for our DC-3 for this Sunday Oct. 4th to help move the goon from the Miramar NAS airshow to local airport. Must have 1,000 TT, 250 Multi, and 100 Tailwheel. If interested please call me at 785-221-8914

Aren't DC-3s' single pilot airplanes? Shouldn't be to hard to ferry one with only one rated pilot.

If an engine falls off you need more than muscle, you need to be limber so you can bend over and kiss your _SS GOODBYE!

Speaking of that have you ever seen the video of Skip Evan's aborted take-off when #1 tossed a blade and ripped the motor off. It was incredible!! All the skydivers made it out Ok. Skip and the co went out the top and down and off the end of the wing. Very cool & scary!!!
Skip said it kept pulling to the left then he could straighten it out but then it would pull left again. It was the motor bouncing off the runway still connected to the control cables!!

THE AIRCRAFT'S LEFT ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL. THE PILOT MANAGED TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT ON THE RUNWAY AND ALL 31 SKYDIVERS AND THE TWO MEMBER CREW EVACUATED WITHOUT INJURY. THE LEFT ENGINE PROPELLER HAD LOST ONE BLADE WHICH WAS FOUND SEVERAL DAYS LATER 3000 FEET WEST OF THE WRECKAGE. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE FOUND TO SUBSTANTIATE COMPLIANCE WITH A MANDATORY AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE ON THE PROPELLER BLADE.


The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:

PROPELLER SYSTEM/ACCESSORIES,BLADE..FAILURE,TOTAL
PROPELLER SYSTEM/ACCESSORIES,BLADE..SEPARATION

Thanks for the response, I think we have at least one co-pilot. WIX is just amazing ! The goony bird is the Best aircraft ever made just read the article about the engine falling off !!!

Probably not too many aircraft who could survive that kind of "adventure"! Have a good, safe flight! The DC-3 is a heavily built workhorse.

It's true the DC-3 is a single pilot airplane, but when the fecal material begins to hit the rotating ocillator another set of hands is invaluable. Common sense applies here. :D

It was aired of most amazing videos. The skydiver in the door had a helmet cam and filmed the emtire episode.
