I saw "Iron Eagle III" at the theater with my Dad, we both enjoyed the flying scenes, and they are still as good on DVD!

Ollie,
I could have the Romans wrong. Was it III or IV that included the F6F, Spit, P-38, Zero replica, and a bunch of Soko Galebs? They asked if they could use my SOKO 522 as a static since it had the same paint scheme as the Galebs. I left for a trip to Russia just before filming at Evergreen ended so I did not know how they used the plane until I saw the movie many months later. In the final film version, the 522 is only shown in a hangar with a tarp covering the whole airplane. I'll see if I can find a copy of the movie. It might be fun to see it again. Thanks, Albert

That's the III. The IV is best left undiscussed.

When Strategic Air Command was released in Belgium, approximately 50 years ago, there was a 52 minutes film over Paul Mantz. Does somebody remember the title?

I just purchased two books on American stunt pilots, the last one being the biography of Paul Mantz, but there is no mention of the documentary.

Help appreciated.

Not exactly a warbird scene, but one of the most thrilling/frightning scenes for me is in I believe The Howard Hughes film 'Hells angels " Its the scene where the Dirigible explodes in midair and comes crashing down around the two main characters,Flames and junk raining down.WOW! Also the flying scenes in "Thirty seconds over Tokyo"
are top notch.A movie that used to play often when I was a kid but hasnt played in quite a while is "Battle Hymn" starring Rock Hudson ,Its the Story of
a gentleman named Dean Hess and his combat experiences in korea flying Mustangs. It has some great flying scenes, the story is so-so.Also theres been alot of posts mentioning the film "Always".While its got some good flying in it,The overall film is only so-so and pales in comparison to the film that it is based on.That film is "A guy named Joe" starring Spencer Tracy and Van Johnson..Its flying scenes arent the best nor are they very numerous but the story is just great. Its just a really good film with great acting and a far fetched but enjoyable story.Steven Spielburg made a noble attempt to capture the spirit with his film "Always"
but he came up short.Sometimes the majic cant be repeated no matter how hard you try. Spielburg says that "A guy named Joe" is his favorite flick and I recommend it to all.Tim

Having just seen the remake of "King Kong" last night, I've got to give kudos to the effects team - not only were the Curtiss Helldivers beautifully rendered (both CGI and full scale mockups) but the flying scenes nearly gave me vertigo!

Personally I like the shots of the 'ME109s' shooting up the RAF on the ground in France at the start as some of them have to be less than 10 feet off the ground (this shows best in the featurette on the 2 disc DVD).

Plus of course any shot of a Spitfire or Hurricane against a blue sky or clouds. To a Brit its a real moment of pride to see either esp the Spits and Hurricanes as the 'Big Wing' appears on screen.

Hmm if you want to downgrade to a 28" let me know ;-)

Wouldnt mind watching the great Chuck Yeager break the sound barrier again in 'The Right Stuff'. Now he was, and is, one of my heroes.
