I had something really off topic to write about and I felt really out of place with this one.
My Crayfish just molted!
My buddy, Melville is his name, is looking all naked with his old shell sitting next to him. He is much smaller than he was yesterday, a little darker too. This is the first time he has done this since we became his caretakers. Shannon and I were anxiously waiting for this since it had not happened in a year. He is now over 5 years old and hopefully is very happy in his tank with a diet of frozen peas and an occaisonal piece of dry catfood. At first sight I thought he was dead, but he kicked his feet while sitting on his back. No doubt tired from the trip out of his exoskeleton, he was just resting. We cannot have any pets in our apartment, but he is in a small tank and is about the length of a typical pen. He was a class project for Shannons neice a while ago and is still going strong. We are his retirement home. He kills me! Shannon is allergic to shellfish so he may kill her too.
The word on the crayfish forum is that he will eat the old shell to harden his new one. Shannons brother used to take it away from him. We will see.
I called Shannon at work a few minutes ago, to tell her we have twins!
She said, "dont touch him and I will be home right away!"
